Boston Public Library Wedding Photos: C&M's Tea Room and Courtyard Wedding

I've photographed so many weddings at the Boston Public Library - around 2-3 a year for the past many years - however this was a pretty unique one for me; first, it was much more intimate, with just over 70 guests, and second it was my first time photographing a reception in the Tea Room and Cafe. I wasn't sure what I'd make of these more intimate rooms ... and honestly it blew my mind just how special this wedding felt in these beautiful spaces! I really, really hope I get more Tea Room weddings because it's my new favorite space at this magnificent venue.

I started my day a little differently to usual; M requested a few getting ready photos with his 6 brothers; C requested some detail photos of the paper goods, followed by a few portraits with her 6 sisters ... yes, that's right: C is one of 7 girls and M is one of 7 boys, and somehow they found each other!

I then rode to the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in the South End with C and her dad, in a fantastic Rolls Royce. It was ancient (my heart skipped a beat each time the engine was started) and yet with all the mod cons (AC! Electric windows!) Such a fun way to arrive. :)

This was my first ever wedding at the cathedral and ... wow. It is jaw-droppingly beautiful. I had just enough time to set up a remote camera in the choir loft to capture the must-have shot of C and her dad's procession down the longest aisle I've seen outside of royal weddings, so I could focus on close-ups of them from the front, and of course the wonderful reaction photos of M. My favorite moment of the ceremony was capturing the little wave between the two sets of parents, during the offering of the sign of peace.

After the ceremony, M&C and I jumped back in the Rolls for some portraits on Comm Ave, then we spent a little time visiting my favorite portrait locations at the Boston Public Library. I always try to capture one completely new portrait for each couple I photograph there, which is a challenge after so many weddings. I'm pleased to say I managed it!

At the end of cocktail hour, C's dad gave his toast in front of the fountain, then C&M enjoyed their first dance in the courtyard before leading their guests into dinner. My remote camera worked hard for me, capturing some of my favorite aerial views of the toast and first dance. I hope these are a nice surprise for C&M!

There were a couple more fantastic toasts during dinner, then I captured the beginning of the dance party in the Cafe. What a day! Thank you both and I can't wait to share more in a few short weeks!
